Work based learning
As part of our successful futures vocational programme at Cloughwood Academy, pupils are offered the opportunity to gain vital work experience. Pupils starting in year 9 have futures interviews every 6 weeks in which they discuss careers, qualifications, workplace skills and potential work placements. This continues in year 10 whilst looking at interview skills and CV building.
Pupils will then be placed on work experience in year 11. At Cloughwood Academy we work hard to ensure these placements, where possible, reflect the courses that the students are currently studying or wish to study at college and give students a real insight into the world of work. They often lead to employment, either as a Saturday job or as full time work once the student has left school. Some pupils will stay with the same employer for an entire year, while others will gain experience through a number of work placements.
These placements build confidence, increase resilience and give pupils valuable and essential skills to add to their CV’s. In the present and very tough and competitive labour market, young people need to stand out from the crowd and consistent Work Experience shows that they have a range of very desirable skills.
Cloughwood pupils get to experience many varied working environments and careers including:
- Growzone
- The Bren Project
- The Co-op
- Brick laying
- Construction
- Carpentry
- Tyre Fitting
- Mechanics
- Animal Care and Dog Grooming
- Retail
- Community Support
- Site Maintenance
