CAREERS EDUCATION AND GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT (CEG)

The Careers department aims to provide the students with the knowledge to help them develop skills for employment and skills for life. CEG Policy Approved 2014

At Key stage 3 students take part in an Enterprise project, which inspires future entrepreneurs through the study of enterprise, finance, marketing and production. To further their skills students are taught Health & Safety in the Workplace, which will prepare them for Work Experience in Year 10.

All Key stage 4 students will work towards gaining an ASDAN qualification in Employability at level 1 gathering evidence for their portfolio. This qualification will enable the students to learn about every aspect of Employability and the world of work.

The careers department offers a work related learning exercise to all year 10 students in the form of a work experience placement. All students take part in a 2 week block placement usually after Easter which will allow the students first-hand experience in a work place environment.

All years 9, 10, and 11 students will receive on going Careers Education and Guidance throughout their attendance at Cloughwood to enable them to make a clear destination path.

To offer the full ASDAN Certificate all year 11 students attend an enrichment session as an extension to the school day to enable the full qualification to be delivered. The students benefit from this extension by being more equipped for life after school. The units that are covered consist of:

  • Applying for a job.
  • Rights and responsibilities in the place.
  • Interview techniques.
  • CV writing.
  • Exploring job opportunities.
  • Overcoming Barriers to work.

The students engage in these classes and their post 16 opportunities and experiences are significantly improved.
