Cloughwood Academy Careers department provides support and guidance to students in KS4; providing them with the knowledge to help them develop skills for life and future employment. The department offers a range of learning experiences which enable students to make positive career choices and allowing them to develop a clear post 16 destination path. These include visits to local employers such as Arriva Train Care Centre, Employability and Skills days hosted within the Academy and visits to careers events. Students also learn valuable skills such as how to create a CV, exploring job opportunities, how to fill in application forms and interview techniques.

During year 10 students are given the opportunity to experience a two-week work placement based on their interests and skills. These work placements have been extremely valuable in preparing students for the world of work and many have continued to attend their placement one-day per week during year 11. Work experience allows each student to explore their strengths, consequently enabling them to make more informed post 16 career choices.

During year 11 the careers department supports students in applying for college courses and apprenticeships. Students work with members of staff to establish course entry requirements and provide support and encouragement in order to achieve the best possible GCSE results. Staff also work with students to manage the transition from school to Further Education by providing opportunities for college taster days, attending college interviews and organising independent travel training if required. By the end of year 11 all our students can feel confident that they are able to progress on to the next stage of their career.
